Hi, I’m Ross, the person behind Adventure Walks.I started the business because I love being outdoors and spending time with dogs, but I wanted to createsomething that felt like more than simply picking a dog up, walking around the block and dropping themhome again.The idea was to give dogs proper experiences, with time to explore, sniff, socialise and enjoy being a dogin woodland, countryside and open spaces around Aylesbury and the neighbouring areas.

Why I Started Adventure Walks

Adventure Walks came from a simple idea: dogs deserve more than a repetitive walk around the same streets.

I wanted to create a service where the walk itself felt like an experience.

That means looking for woodland, countryside and trail locations where dogs can:

● Explore new surroundings
● Follow interesting scents
● Enjoy appropriate social interaction
● Build confidence
● Get both physical exercise and mental stimulation

Since starting the business, Adventure Walks has also become more community-focused.

I want it to be a professional dog walking service, but also something that helps bring local dog owners together.

My Experience With Dogs

A lot of my experience originally came from being a dog owner myself and spending years around dogs with different personalities and behaviours.

Before launching Adventure Walks, I made sure I built on that practical experience through training and education. I did not want to start a business simply because I liked dogs. I wanted to understand the responsibility involved in caring for them professionally.

Since launching, working with dogs every day has expanded that experience considerably.

I have worked with:

● Puppies
● Older dogs
● Rescue dogs
● Dogs of different breeds and sizes
● Confident and social dogs
● Dogs that need more patience and confidence building

One of the biggest things I have learned is that every dog is different, and the best approach is not always the same for every dog.

Qualified, Insured & Continually Learning

Owners are trusting me with a member of their family, so professional standards matter.
I currently hold:

● A Level 3 qualification in Dog Walking and Pet Sitting
● Canine first-aid training
● A DBS check
● Full insurance for the services I provide

I am also a big believer that learning should not stop once you have a qualification.

I continue developing my knowledge around canine behaviour, body language, handling, enrichment and welfare so I can keep improving the way I care for the dogs I work with.

How I Build Safe Group Walks

I do not put dogs together simply because there happens to be a space available.

When deciding whether dogs are suitable to walk together, I look at:

● Temperament
● Size
● Energy level
● Play style
● Confidence
● Comfort around other dogs

New dogs are assessed before being introduced into an established group, and introductions can be gradual where necessary.

If a dog is not ready for a group environment, they can start with one-to-one walks instead.

For suitable dogs, my group dog walks are designed to provide structured exercise, social interaction and enrichment in carefully chosen environments.

Every Dog Is Treated As An Individual

I do not believe every dog should be handled or exercised in exactly the same way.

Before deciding what kind of walk or routine is suitable, I consider things like:

● Personality
● Age
● Confidence
● Energy levels
● Behaviour
● Play style
● What the dog actually enjoys

My walks are not just about covering as much distance as possible.

Sniffing, exploring, playing, social interaction and taking time to investigate the environment can all be important forms of enrichment.

I am also happy to slow things down when a dog needs it.

The aim is for them to come home physically exercised, mentally fulfilled and, most importantly, having enjoyed themselves.

Why The Location Matters

Part of what makes Adventure Walks different is that the location is part of the experience.

I look for woodland, countryside and trails where dogs have space to explore and plenty of interesting scents and surroundings.

I also consider:

● Traffic
● Livestock
● Other people and dogs
● Accessibility
● Weather conditions
● Whether the location suits the particular dogs I have with me that day

Safety comes first, but I do not want walks to feel repetitive.

Where possible, I want each outing to give the dogs something interesting to experience.

Safety Comes First From Collection To Drop-Off

Safety starts before we even leave the house.

I make sure I understand each dogs needs, behaviour, triggers and any relevant information from their owner before taking them out.

During walks, I use suitable leads and equipment and I do not automatically allow a dog off lead simply because I have been told they have good recall.

I need to build confidence in the dog myself first, and long lines can be used while that trust is being established.

I also monitor dogs throughout the walk for:

● Changes in behaviour
● Tiredness
● Stress
● Discomfort
● Changes in weather conditions

If something needs to change, I will adapt the walk.

Collections and drop-offs are managed carefully too, particularly when multiple dogs are involved, so that dogs are not placed in situations where they feel unnecessarily excited, stressed or uncomfortable.

Clear, Honest Communication With Owners

I want owners to know what their dog has been doing rather than handing them over and hearing nothing.

Communication is a big part of Adventure Walks.

Owners can expect:

● Regular updates
● Photos and videos from walks
● Honest feedback
● Clear communication if something has not gone to plan
● A welfare-first approach

If I notice something unusual, if a dog has struggled with something or if I think we need to change the way we are approaching their walks, I would rather have that conversation.

I want owners to know they can contact me and that their dogs welfare will always come before simply completing a booking.

What I Enjoy Most About The Job

One of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing dogs become more confident and comfortable.

Some dogs join me feeling unsure or nervous. Watching them gradually relax, build friendships and start enjoying their adventures is incredibly rewarding.

I also really enjoy building relationships with owners.

There is a huge amount of trust involved in handing your dog, and often access to your home, over to somebody else.

Knowing that an owner feels completely comfortable with me looking after their dog means a lot.
